storyboarding and
pre-production services

For visual storytelling through animation or live-action, thorough pre-production is crucial to ensuring your project is set up for success from the very beginning.

Squeak Studio specializes in storyboarding, animatics, previsualisation and technical shoot planning, with the experience and creative skill sets to transform your ideas into compelling visual plans that will help to streamline production.

storyboarding

Storyboarding involves creating a series of sequential drawings to outline the key scenes and actions, serving as a blueprint for the story's visual flow.

Storyboard panel by Squeak shows a child sitting on a colorful mat with a mobile overhead. Symbols like a heart, rainbow, and figures hang from the mobile. The phrase "my mental health is linked to the people & things around me…" is written below.

animatic

Animatics take storyboards a step further by adding timing, simple motion, and audio to provide a rough preview of the project's pacing and tone. This step can be very important to workshop, as all of the shots/actions from the storyboards may not fit into the required duration once paced out.

previsualisation

Previs further refines this process by incorporating 3D models and camera movements to simulate the final shots, offering a detailed visualization of the scenes before full production. Previs is not required on every project, but is beneficial on projects that have a large CG component or many technical setups.

technical planning

From the previs layouts, we can determine key technical information that the camera department can use on-set to achieve the desired results.

This is especially important for our 3D anamorphic billboard productions, as it dictates the lens, camera height, distance to subject and parameters of the subject’s performance to achieve the intended optical illusion.

Depending on the project, we also have fun conduct testing in VR and/or practically in our in-house studio to ensure we are thoroughly prepared for the production.
